Nominations

District leaders are chosen through a process Toastmasters International sets, and it runs the same way in every district. Here is how a name reaches the ballot.

Key dates

Nominations open on November 7, 2026.

Nominations close on January 29, 2027.

The election is held at the district council’s annual business meeting, during Embrace the Opportunities!.

The District Leadership Committee

The District Leadership Committee interviews and evaluates every known candidate for an elected district office and decides whom to nominate. Each division in the district is equally represented on it, and the District Director, Club Growth Director and Program Quality Director may not serve. Its deliberations and its votes are confidential.

The offices being filled

The committee nominates at least one candidate for District Director, at least one for Club Growth Director, two or more for Program Quality Director, and at least one for every other elective district office. Each office carries service requirements a candidate has to meet at the time of taking office; the committee verifies them before it assesses anyone, and nobody can be nominated until they are met. Toastmasters publishes the full list.

Putting a name forward

You can put yourself forward, be approached by the committee, or be nominated by another member. Nominating someone — or yourself — starts with Toastmasters’ District Leader Nominating Form. Send it to the address below. Before they can be nominated, elected, appointed or run from the floor for any district office, candidates must also sign the District Leader Agreement and Release Statement and submit a completed Candidate Biography Form and a photograph.

The committee’s report

The committee tells the District Director whom it has nominated six weeks before the election. Its written report then goes to every member of the district council at least four weeks before the council’s annual meeting, with each candidate’s biography, and is posted on the district website.

Candidates from the floor

A member of the district council may nominate further qualified candidates from the floor at the annual meeting, provided the committee evaluated them for that office in the same election cycle. Floor candidates must tell the District Director in writing that they intend to run at least seven days before the election. The names of floor candidates are not published with the committee’s report, or in any other district publication.
